Biography
I am a High School Math teacher at the Shanghai American School, in Shanghai China. This is my fifth year here and previously taught internationally in Istanbul and Quito, Ecuador. Before coming overseas, I taught for 4 years a small village of 600 people, Arctic Bay, in Canada's Arctic. Since joining Shanghai American School, I have been involved with Habitat for Humanity and each year I organize about 13 trips to various countries within Asia and Africa. More than 200 students and 30 teachers take part in these trips each year. One of those trips brought me to Malawi and connected me with the Jacaranda School. This school offers free education to AIDS orphans and we have built a lasting relationship with this amazing school and Marie Da Silva the founder of the school. http://www.firstgiving.com/robertburke I visited the school in June 2009 with a 18 students and 4 teachers and returned again this past June with 22 students and 3 teachers. Both of these trips have reconfirmed what I already new, that Jacaranda makes amazing changes in the lives of some of Malawi's AIDS orphaned children. Our relationship grows stronger every day and I hope to be able to continue our involvement with the Jacaranda School for many years to come.
