Jacaranda: Summary Actions / Resumen Acciones 2009
UnitingPeople has coordinated the efforts of several foundations in order to generate funds for the project led by Marie da Silva in Malawi. This resulted in a contribution of $ 1,864 for the construction of a science laboratory. The lab will allow the school to be accredited by the Malawi government and to receive public funding. In 2010, we will continue pursuing the allocation of funds needed for the construction of the laboratory.
With the help received from Startfund, we intend to plant a vegetable garden and construct a poultry farm. These funds ( $12,370) have allowed the purchase of a plot of land for setting up the garden and the farm. Jacaranda had acquired the land with its own funds in order to enable them to start the construction of the garden and the farm until the Startfund funds arrive. The pupils of the Jacaranda school will be totally involved in the development of this project through the Agriculture course which will be an integral part of the academic curriculum. The vegetables, fruits, eggs and meat generated will be served to the pupils in three weekly meals. With the remainder of the produce, a food store will be opened and its income will be reinvested in the school. This project is a very important step towards the school’s self-sufficiency. Furthermore, it will instil agricultural and entrepreneurial skills in its pupils.

UnitingPeople ha llevado a cabo acciones con varias fundaciones para lograr fondos para el proyecto que lidera Marie da Silva en Malawi. Se ha logrado recaudar 1.864$ para la construcción del laboratorio de ciencias. El laboratorio permitirá que la escuela sea acreditada por el gobierno de Malawi y que pueda recibir fondos públicos. Continuaremos trabajando durante el 2010 para lograr los fondos que son necesarios para la construcción del laboratorio.
Con la ayuda que hemos obtenido de Startfund pondremos en marcha un huerto y una granja de gallinas (12.370$). Estos fondos han permitido comprar el terreno donde instalar el huerto y la granja de gallinas. Con propios fondos, Jacaranda ha comprado ya el terreno para poder empezar construir el huerto y la granja en cuando llegan los fondos de Startfund. Los alumnos de Jacaranda School estarán totalmente implicados en el desarrollo de este proyecto a través de la asignatura de Agricultura que está incluida en el currículo académico. Las verduras, frutas, huevos y carne que se obtengan servirán para ofrecer tres comidas semanales a los alumnos. Con el resto de la producción se abrirá una tienda y los ingresos que se obtengan se revertirán en la escuela. Este proyecto es un paso muy importante en la autosostenibilidad de la escuela, y además permite formar a los alumnos como agricultores y como emprendedores.
