Update fundraising for Kupwara centre
We have obtained funding to build the building from the Foundation A Leg To Stand On, which has been an enormous achievement for us all.
We do not have funds yet for the furnishing of the Kupwara building, nor do we have funds for the staff for the Kupwara building, nor do we have funds for the rehabilitation equipment for the Kupwara building, but we are working on finding funds for these aspects of the building and hope that the participants of UnitingPeople will come forward. I am going to apply to Rotary International for the furnishing and equipment for Kupwara, and if Handicap International continues their project with us into 2011, their donor, the European Commission, will no doubt fund salaries for staff for Kupwara.
So that is Kupwara.
Our long term goal is to have permanent rehabilitation centres in all 10 districts of Kashmir. We have now got one in the Ganderbal District, and will be starting construction soon on our second one, in the Kupwara District. The next district on our list is Baramulla. The costs and the size of the building would be the same, and we are confident that if someone came forward to fund the building, we could work with the community leaders to obtain the land free of charge.
We have not had good Internet access again. It comes and goes like the rain. So if you don't hear from me as you would wish, that is the reason. And I can only call you through the Internet, as phone calls outside India are pretty much prohibited from Kashmir phones, due to security reasons.
